    • on formate le disque dur (petite capacité requise, évitez d’investir dans 1 To, 640 ko 250 Go seront suffisants).

The “eldest daughter syndrome” is now officially a scientifically proven phenomenon, as a new study showed a correlation between early maturity in first-born daughters and maternal stress during pregnancy.

Oldest sibling and author of the book Paris, My Love, Yael Wolfe, often felt the lines between her role and her mother’s role were blurred.

She told HuffPost: “By the time my youngest brother was born when I was almost 11, I was overwhelmed with feelings of responsibility for his welfare.

“I used to sit by his crib and watch him sleep just to make sure he was safe.”

“Eldest daughter syndrome” was validated by a new study linking early maturity in first-born daughters to maternal stress

“It wasn’t that I thought my mother wasn’t competent, but more that I felt we were both responsible for the family by that point in my life.

“As if I was literally [the] ‘other mom,’ rather than big sister.”

The “eldest daughter syndrome,” which, despite not being listed as an official diagnosis in the DSM-V, has become somewhat of a pop psychology term often discussed on social media.

“If you are the oldest sibling and also a girl you may be entitled to financial compensation,” a woman joked on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Nevertheless, a University of California, Los Angeles-led research team found that, in certain instances, first-born daughters tend to mature earlier, enabling them to help their mother rear younger siblings.

Moreover, the researchers found a correlation between early signs of adrenal puberty in first-born daughters and their mothers having experienced high levels of prenatal stress.

Adrenal puberty refers to a phase of development during which hormonal changes occur, primarily involving the adrenal glands, and the age of when this phase occurs matters because it is during this phase that skin, body hair, and the brain develop.

Additionally, adrenal puberty processes are reportedly believed to foster social and cognitive changes. As a result, the study showed that superficial physical changes correlated with emotional maturity.

The study revealed that first-born daughters often mature earlier, with early signs of adrenal puberty

According to Jennifer Hahn-Holbrook, one of the co-authors of the study and an assistant professor of psychology at the University of California, Merced, when times are tough and mothers are stressed during pregnancy, it’s in the mother’s best interest for their daughter to socially mature at a quicker pace.

The psychology expert said: “It gives mom a ‘helper-at-the-nest’ sooner, aiding the women in keeping the latter offspring alive in difficult environments.”

The study posited that girls became mentally mature enough to care for their younger siblings while not being physically capable of having their own children.

Meanwhile, older brothers were seemingly off the hook when it came to this kind of parentification, as the researchers did not find the same result in boys or daughters who were not firstborn.

Jennifer said: “One reason that we didn’t find this effect in first-born children who are sons could be that male children help less often with direct childcare than female children do, so mothers have less of an adaptive incentive to speed their social pubertal development.”

The results of this study, published in the February issue of Psychoneuroendocrinology, involved 15-year-old research on various families, from the pregnancy stage to the babies’ teen years.

On average, the women chosen for the study were 30 years of age and pregnant with one child, not twins. Approximately half of the women were undergoing their first pregnancy.

At five different stages of pregnancy, the women’s stress, depression, and anxiety levels were measured and then measured cumulatively, as per HuffPuff.

In challenging times, maternal stress during pregnancy prompts daughters to mature faster, serving as an early “helper-at-the-nest”

The depression assessment reportedly asked the women to rate the truth of statements such as “I felt lonely,” while the anxiety question asked how often they felt particular symptoms, like jitters.

Of the children born to these mothers, 48% were female and 52% were male. Results showed that the eldest girls matured the fastest when their mothers experienced high levels of prenatal stress.

The findings echoed author Yael, who said: “I’m not at all surprised by what the study found.

“My story is slightly different, I went through true puberty, not just adrenal puberty, at 12, though I suspect I experienced an early cognitive maturation.”

“Being parentified as a child takes away from your own childhood,” a reader commented

    1. TOR (The Onion Router) :

In a world that glorifies toned bodies, some people are willing to do whatever it takes to feel more confident when they look in the mirror.

Naturally, the pressure to be slim can feel especially urgent for those in the spotlight.

Ozempic—the commercial name for semaglutide—provides an alternative route to weight loss. The drug is actually an anti-diabetic medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and hasn’t received FDA approval for external purposes.

Still, stars have been injecting themselves with it—or the similar anti-diabetic drug, Mounjaro—raving about its rapid changes or warning their fans about its negative side effects.

Below, Bored Panda presents a list of 17 celebrities who have admitted to using the medication in the past.

    #1 Sharon Osbourne

The English TV personality had to stop taking Ozempic after losing much more weight than she intended to.

The process of watching the number go down on the scale as the months progressed became addictive to Sharon. "I couldn't stop losing weight, and I can't afford to lose anymore," the mother said.

The former "X-Factor" judge says she lost over 45 lbs (20 kilos) on the medication, and her weight fell down to 97 lbs (43 kilos).

Sharon recently told The Guardian that she stopped injecting herself with the drug and has "finally become more accepting" of her body.

    #2 Oprah Winfrey

The iconic television host lost more than 40 lbs (18 kg) over recent months.

After vowing she'd never use Ozempic because it was the "easy way out," Oprah revealed during a December 2023 interview with People that she has since changed her mind about anti-diabetic medications. Now, she sees them "as a tool to manage not yo-yoing."

"The fact that there's a medically-approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for," she said.

The 70-year-old has also changed her lifestyle, starting by "clearing out" her fridge. Another healthy habit she implemented is drinking a gallon of water each day.

    #3 Elon Musk

Tesla’s CEO revealed that he lost over 20 pounds (9 kilos) while taking the drug.

When someone inquired about the secret behind his physical transformation in October 2022, Elon responded, "Fasting + Ozempic/Wegovy."

"Does it give you those nasty burps? Taste like rotten eggs lol ugh," someone asked the 52-year-old on his platform, X (formerly known as Twitter).

    "Yeah, next-level," the billionaire responded.

Unlike Ozempic, Wegovy—another brand name for semaglutide— has received FDA approval for weight loss.

    #4 Chelsea Handler

The 49-year-old comedian was unaware that she had been prescribed Ozempic.

Once she realized what she had been taking, she decided to stop using it.

"'So, my anti-aging doctor just hands it out to anybody," Chelsea explained while on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast in January 2023.

"I didn't even know I was on it. If you ever want to drop five pounds, this is good."

The stand-up comedian discovered she had been on Ozempic while chatting with one of her friends, who told her that she had been feeling nauseous due to the drug.

When Chelsea revealed that she had been feeling the same way after injecting herself with semaglutide, her friend exclaimed, "That's Ozempic!"

    #5 Robbie Williams

"Babe, I'm on Ozempic," Robbie told The Times in October 2023. "Well, something like Ozempic."

The British singer-songwriter lost 25 pounds (over 11 kilos), a change he referred to as a "Christmas miracle."

The singer-songwriter disclosed that he struggles with body dysmorphia.

According to the NHS, body dysmorphic disorder is a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance. These flaws are often unnoticeable to others.

"I need it, medically. I've been diagnosed with type 2 self-loathing," the 50-year-old "Angels" singer said.

    #6 Amy Schumer

During an interview on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen" in June 2023, Amy confirmed that she did try Ozempic but gave it up due to its negative side effects.

"I was one of those people that felt so sick and couldn't play with my son. I was so skinny," the comedian said.

“And you're like, ‘OK, this isn't livable for me.’”

Additionally, Amy revealed that she underwent liposuction, a type of surgery that uses suction to remove fat from specific areas of the body.

“I just wanted to say that because if anybody sees me in pictures or anything and they're like, ‘She looks thinner, and whatever’: It's because I had a surgery.”

    #7 Kelly Osbourne

The daughter of Ozzy and Sharon sparked controversy after praising Ozempic as "amazing" and saying those who criticized it are "pissed off" they can’t bear the cost of getting the medication.

"There are a million ways to lose weight — why not do it through something that isn't as boring as working out?" Kelly said while speaking to E! Online in February.

"People hate on it because they want to do it," she added. "And the people who hate on it the most are the people who are secretly doing it or pissed off that they can't afford it."

The TV personality shared that losing weight was "miserable" and "a lot of work," but ultimately, she became "really happy with the results."

    #8 Boy George

"I have struggled with my weight most of my life, and being under public and media scrutiny doesn't help," the British singer wrote in his memoir, "Karma: My Autobiography."

The Culture Club star admitted to taking Ozempic before switching to Mounjaro, a similar drug with a main active ingredient of tirzepatide.

"I love food, and I can't control my appetite, but I think I have finally got it under control," the musician, who previously underwent an abdominoplasty surgery, wrote.

"Well, I'm on Mounjaro. Isn't everyone? Trust me, anyone who was fat last year and is not skinny is on the wonder drug."

    #9 Tracy Morgan

Tracy revealed that taking Ozempic "cut [his] appetite in half."

During an appearance on the "Today Show" in August 2023, the stand-up comedian said he injected himself with the drug once a week to aid with weight loss.

When the "30 Rock" actor was complimented on the show for working out and looking healthy, he said, "No, that's Ozempic."

"That's how this weight got lost. I went and got a prescription, and I got Ozempic. And I ain't letting it go!"

"It cuts my appetite in half. Now I only eat half a bag of Doritos."

The side effects of Ozempic include severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and gastroparesis (a disorder that slows or stops the movement of food from your stomach to your small intestine), according to research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

    #10 Golnesa "Gg" Gharachedaghi

"Shahs of Sunset" alum Golnesa Gharachedaghi didn't mention the name "Ozempic," but she said she had been using a generic version of semaglutide to help with weight loss.

"I did what all the people are doing and lying about. I'm on the weight-loss shots, honey, okay?" GG said in a video shared on Instagram.

"I'm just not gonna lie about it because I always keep it real about what is fake."

In June 2023, the 42-year-old shared a concerning health update in which she announced that she would be "cutting back" on the drug.

"When I started semaglutide shots, I was 138 lbs [62 kilos]. Now, I'm about 110 lbs [almost 50 kilos]. As you can see, I've lost a little more weight than I was anticipating to lose."

    #11 Remi Bader

Remi explained that after she stopped using the drug, she gained back twice the weight that she had lost.

"I was like, 'I bet the second I go off I'm going to get starving again,'" she told the "Not Skinny But Not Fat" podcast in January.

"And I did. My binging got so much worse, so then I kind of blame Ozempic. I gained double the weight back after.

"I saw a doctor, and they were like, 'It's 100% because you went on Ozempic.'"

The TikTok star and plus-size model was prescribed the drug when she was diagnosed with prediabetes, a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes.

    #12 Patti Stanger

Patti's Ozempic journey was short-lived, lasting only three weeks. The reality TV star decided to quit its use due to the drug's challenging side effects.

"I got the worst acid reflux. And I was not feeling good," the CEO of the professional matchmaking service "Millionaire's Club International" explained on the "Behind the Velvet Rope" podcast in February 2023.

Hoping for a change, Patti then switched to Mounjaro, a drug that many of her friends had raved about. She didn't experience the same side effects while taking this medication.

    #13 Gracie Mcgraw

The 26-year-old daughter of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill revealed on social media that she jumped on the Ozempic craze last year.

Now, she's on a "low dose" of Mounjaro.

Gracie takes the medication for her polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This hormonal disorder can lead to irregular periods, abnormal hair growth, weight gain, oily skin or acne, thinning hair, and infertility.

"I did use Ozempic last year, yes. I am now on a low dose of Mounjaro for my PCOS, as well as working out. No need to accuse when I have been open about it," Gracie wrote on Instagram.

    #14 Heather Gay

Heather didn't notice a significant body transformation after taking Ozempic.

"I've been on it for a long time, but hadn't really seen much results," the "Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" star told People last November.

She also mentioned that people have been treating her differently since her weight loss.

"You lose five pounds, people are nicer to you," the 49-year-old said.

"I don't know why. It's just the way the world works, and that makes me sad for women."

"But I'm happy that I'm down five."

    #15 Dolores Catania

The "Real Housewives of New Jersey" star explained that she began taking Ozempic because she didn't want to look "bigger" than her castmates.

"I wasn't going to come to the reunion looking any bigger than anyone else, so I got on the bandwagon," Dolores told Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live" in June 2023.

After dropping 20 pounds (9 kilos), she quit the injectable medication because it was too expensive.

    #16 Emily Simpson

Emily started taking the medication last December after a doctor suggested she may be prediabetic.

The "Real Housewives of Orange County" star said Ozempic helped her kick unhealthy habits like "grazing" and "not really paying attention" to her nutrition.

Eventually, she quit the medication because it drained her energy.

"I didn't like the way it made me feel lethargic, and it made me just not have a lot of energy, which was hard with three little kids, but it does make you feel full," she said.

    #17 Lauren Manzo

Lauren started struggling with weight loss fluctuation in her twenties.

"You guys have seen me struggle with [my weight] since [I was] 20 years old, and it's been really hard for me," the 35-year-old said in May 2023 while appearing on Page Six's "Virtual Reali-Tea" podcast.

"I've lost a lot of weight from being on that whole Ozempic thing."

The daughter of "Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Caroline Manzo also revealed she lost 30 pounds (13 kilos) on Mounjaro.

    Alors comment fonctionne Adeus ?

Few things are more aggravating than people not respecting things that ought to be respected, like mother nature, sites of great significance, or stop signs, for that matter. And unfortunately, many of them are often disrespected by entitled tourists, who tend to feel like the world is their playground.

If you haven’t encountered any of them yet, first and foremost, consider yourself lucky, and secondly, brace yourself for some vexing images. We have found pictures of some of the most entitled and ignorant tourists out there, and put them on this list, which could be considered a manual on what not to do when traveling. Scroll down to find them below, but do it at your own risk, as you might get quite annoyed before even reaching the end of the list.

#37 Day 1 Visiting Iceland And I'm Shocked At The Disrespect I Saw From Tourists

Every landscape has been incredible, but I don't know how we kept running into very disrespectful tourists. First, we ran into a lady who kept going over the ropes and stepping on the grass that was clearly marked off-limits to take pictures of... dandelions?! Do you not have dandelions back home? Another was just urinating in a parking lot; there were bathrooms available about 200 feet away. But the most disturbing of all was this one, who just decided to jump the ropes to get a better shot at a GEYSER THAT IS BOILING. I was recording to try and get a picture of when it erupted, and I saw this guy walking across. What’s going on with the world?

When I shifted my eyes down from the bamboo canopy, I was greeted with this sight. All this was captured at the fringes of the Nonomiya shrine. There's a very good reason why a simple barricade fenced the path from the forest. I don't think trampling through the forest and bending over a bamboo cane just for a snapshot is a considerate thing to indulge in.

Oftentimes, we think of people from the past as stuffy, stiff, and nowhere near as fun as us. After all, at best, we might have a few old letters and maybe some dusty photographs. But don’t let this fool you, humans over a hundred years ago were just as capable of looking fly.

New York Times bestselling author Jason Pargin shared his discovery that people in mugshots from over a hundred years ago look absolutely awesome. Bored Panda reached out to Jason via email and will update the article when he gets back to us.

    More info: TikTok

A man on TikTok shared his discovery that folks in 1920s mugshots looked incredibly cool

    @jasonkpargin #rizz ♬ Quirky Suspenseful Indie-Comedy(1115050) - Kenji Ueda

We’ve gathered some of the best examples online below

    #1 Herbert Ellis 1920

Ellis is found in numerous police records of the 1910s, 20s and 30s. He is variously listed as a housebreaker, a shop breaker, a safe breaker, a receiver and a suspected person

Image credits: The Sydney Justice & Police Museum

    #2 Edith Florence Ashton, 29 August 1929

Edith Ashton was a backyard abortionist who also dabbled in theft and fencing stolen goods

Image credits: The Sydney Justice & Police Museum

#3 ‘Ah Num’ And ‘Ah Tom’, Ca 1930

The ‘D’ prefix on the serial number indicates that the photograph was taken on behalf of the Drug Bureau

Image credits: The Sydney Justice & Police Museum

The term mugshot is somewhat comical, as the word “mug” is a pretty lowly slang word for a face. How it ended up being part of the official label is anyone’s guess. Regardless of the “how,” the term mugshot has been used since the late 18th century, although, as these images demonstrate, the form and standards have changed over time.

The real question is, why were all these convicts of the past so darn attractive? Is there some correlation between doing crime and physical charisma? Unfortunately, for better or worse, that seems statistically unlikely. Instead, these images simply stood out from the no doubt hundreds of others.

#4 De Gracy And Edward Dalton, 1920

Image credits: The Sydney Justice & Police Museum

#5 Sydney Skukerman, Or Skukarman. 1924

Obtains goods from warehousemen by falsely representing that he is in business.

Image credits: The Sydney Justice & Police Museum

    #6 William Stanley Moore 1926

Opium dealer./ Operates with large quantities of faked opium and cocaine./ A wharf labourer; associates with water front thieves and drug traders

Image credits: The Sydney Justice & Police Museum

The fact that they were allowed to pose and even retain their own clothes does mean that this was a sort of “golden age” of mugshots. There is something appealing about the modern iteration, of just a face and side profile, but, as these images demonstrate, certain looks are just no longer possible.

    #7 “Mrs Osbourne” Circa 1919

Image credits: The Sydney Justice & Police Museum

#8 Elsie Hall, Dulcie Morgan, Jean Taylor C. 1920

The names inscribed here do not appear in police records for 1920-21, and it is likely the women were photographed simply because they were found in the company of known criminals

Image credits: The Sydney Justice & Police Museum

    #9 Alfred Ladewig Circa 1920s

Alfred Ladewig, alias Wallace, John Walker, Atkins; charged on provisional warrant with stealing by trick the sum of 204AUD, at Brisbane, the property of Alfred Walter Thomlinson

Image credits: The Sydney Justice & Police Museum

So all in all, take this as an opportunity to explore the criminals and fashion of the past. While it might be a bit strange to take fashion advice from a hundred-year-old image of a convict, one can’t deny that many of them do look downright cool. If you overlook the criminal-elephant in the room.

Nancy Cowman, 19, and Vera Crichton, 23, are listed in the NSW Police Gazette 24 March 1924 as charged, along with three others, with “conspiring together to procure a miscarriage” on a third woman

Image credits: The Sydney Justice & Police Museum

The handwritten inscription on this unnumbered Special Photograph reads ‘Frederick Edward Davies stealing in picture shows and theatres Dets Surridge Clark and Breen Central 14-7-21’

Image credits: The Sydney Justice & Police Museum

Bernstein (under the alias “L Berman”) was the subject of a warrant issued in early 1929 charged with obtaining a diamond ring value 14 pounds by false pretences from an Oxford Street jeweller

Image credits: The Sydney Justice & Police Museum

    #20 Doris Winifred Poole, 31 July 1924

Doris Poole appeared before the Newtown Police Court charged with stealing jewellery and clothing

Image credits: The Sydney Justice & Police Museum

In this day and age, it can be difficult to even define what’s considered weird anymore. Societal norms change all the time, and new technology makes things that would have seemed crazy a decade or two ago appear perfectly normal today. But if you’re interested in some photos that might make you say, “Huh, that’s weird,” then you’ve come to the right place.

We took a trip to the Weird subreddit and gathered some of our favorite out of the ordinary pics below. From strange drawings to concerning technological glitches, enjoy scrolling through these pics, and be sure to upvote the ones that you find particularly bizarre!

If you spend a lot of time online, there’s no question that you’ve come across some bizarre things. The best part about the internet is that you can find anything there, and the worst part about the internet is probably that you can find anything there. And the Weird subreddit is definitely one place that holds plenty of strange treasures (but in a good way!).

This online community, which has amassed an impressive 1.3 million members and is one of the largest subreddits on the platform, is dedicated to “the weird, strange, odd and bizarre.” Here, you’ll find photos that can’t be explained, learn interesting facts that you would have never imagined were true, and find some oddly entertaining images that you’ve likely never seen before.

We’re big fans of the Weird subreddit here at Bored Panda, so this actually isn’t the first time that we’ve covered the group. Last summer, we published a list featuring some of our favorite r/Weird posts, and we were lucky enough to get in touch with the group’s moderator team to interview them about what it’s like to run a page like this.

“Maintaining the subreddit is an important task," the moderators shared. "While r/Weird embraces the unconventional and the bizarre, there are still certain guidelines and rules in place to ensure a positive and respectful environment for everyone."

The moderators also broke down some of the most common issues that they encounter in r/Weird that require intervention. “Spam: Removing repetitive or irrelevant posts and comments that are purely self-promotional or aim to manipulate the subreddit for personal gain,” they noted.

“Inappropriate content: Addressing posts or comments that contain explicit or offensive material, including hate speech, personal attacks, or explicit imagery,” the moderators added.

#12 Things My Fiancé Says In His Sleep That I Started Documenting

The mods also shared that off-topic posts will be removed from the group. "Keeping the subreddit focused on weird and unusual content by removing posts that do not align with the subreddit's theme” is important to them.

And low-quality posts won’t fly in r/Weird either. The mods say they work on “encouraging users to share content that sparks curiosity and discussion, and removing low-effort or low-quality posts that don't contribute to the overall experience.”

#15 Serious Question: Can Someone Explain These Perfect Squares I Noticed While Flying?

And as you might expect, r/Weird is full of a wide variety of content. "The community of r/weird is diverse and passionate about exploring the unconventional and the peculiar," the mod team previously told Bored Panda. "Members are often intrigued by the strange, the unexplained, and the outlandish."

Defining weird isn’t always easy, especially when you have over a million group members who might have slightly different ideas of what’s considered strange. “While there is a general understanding of what qualifies as 'weird,' interpretations may vary among individuals," the mods said.

But having different opinions can actually be a great thing. "This diversity of perspectives adds to the richness of the community, as members often share their own unique findings, experiences, and opinions, expanding the boundaries of what is considered weird,” the moderators added.

    #19 My Throat Hurt

My throat hurt all day. I just coughed this up... it is green, metallic, hard, and brittle. Its weird as fu ck. It was originally one peice but i broke it trying to figure what the fuck it was.. When it comes to what posts perform particularly well in r/Weird, the mods shared a few different types that members tend to love. The first being unusual or supernatural experiences: “Stories and accounts of paranormal encounters, strange coincidences, or other inexplicable phenomena often attract attention and spark discussions among members."

Rare and bizarre discoveries are popular as well. “Unearthed artifacts, odd historical facts, or peculiar occurrences that are not widely known tend to generate interest, as they offer new and intriguing information,” the mods explained.

Unique art and creativity can be exciting for members to find in r/Weird as well. “Original artworks, sculptures, music, or other creative endeavors that embrace the weird and unconventional can garner appreciation and inspire conversations within the community," the moderators told Bored Panda.

And finally, scientific and historical oddities capture members’ interest too. “Scientific discoveries or phenomena that defy conventional explanations or challenge existing knowledge often capture the interest of r/weird members who enjoy exploring the boundaries of what is considered normal,” the mods previously shared.

In this day and age where most things are normalized, one would think that we are close to breaking free from the harmful stereotypes that restrict men and women every day. Unfortunately, we are still far from it, with gender roles still deeply rooted in our culture and reinforced by role models and the media.

Redditor Much_Description690 was especially interested in the things gals get wrong about guys, further feeding into false judgments that negatively affect them. To know more about such a matter, they started a discussion online asking, “Women of Reddit, what lie did you believe to be true about men that you discovered was false?”

In response, many females shared misconceptions about males they thought were true for a long time but turned out to be a complete myth. Scroll down to find the most eye-opening and wholesome ones, which might change the way you see the so-called stronger sex.

    #1

That all men would be against me learning “guy things” like fixing my own vehicles, or working a blue collar job. Turns out, my favorite teachers and biggest cheerleaders in any “guy thing” I want to try are men.

So thank you, to the amazing, kind, supportive, wonderful men who share their knowledge and encourage women to learn important life skills.

    #2

That women talk a lot but men don’t. Like, have you met a man? They just don’t shut up!

    #3

That if a guy broke up with a girl he was “just scared of his feelings”. I swear chicks told each other this all the time. Like no girl he’s just not into you?

    #4

They don’t need foreplay. They absolutely do, they aren’t boner machines. They’re only human.

    #5

"if they're mean to you, it's be cause they really like you."

What a load of b******t. Very damaging thing to say to a young girl also.

    #6

A lot of these answers are simply women registering with shock and surprise when they realize that men too are human beings, often with complicates internal lives.

You can live in this culture indefinitely without being exposed to that idea.

    #7

My wife was surprised that men could be organized when she moved in with me and my place was very tidy.

    #8

My dad has the knack. Something not right about your house/car/computer/ appliance/dog? You don't have to explain, he's already fixed it. I genuinely thought this was inherent to men, because my dad makes everything look so easy.

    #9

    Men don't have emotions.

B******t. Men are very emotional creatures. They just aren't 'allowed' to express most of their emotions which leads to health issues, both mental and physical.

    #10

    Men don’t gossip.

Men are the bigggggest gossips. I love it.

    #11

I know this may sound dumb but I didn’t think men could feel insecure. Every guy I know has an insane amount of confidence, I’ve never seen any male figures in my life show anything close to insecurity. I guess they’re just really good at masking it.

    #12

Men don't like flowers. They often do but have never had a need to develop preferences towards them.

    #13

“ the bigger the better “

    #14

For a long time I was given the impression that a majority of men viewed sex as a degrading act upon a woman, even if they were the ones having sex with that woman - rather than seeing it as an act of intimacy or an expression of love. Turns out an *extremely vocal* minority like to paint it that way while claiming that all other men feel the same.

    #15

That *all* men prefer thin women.

False. I've met countless men who have genuinely no attraction to thin women. In fact, plenty of men prefer women who are slightly to moderately larger than average, and some men prefer women who are much, much larger than average. Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder.

Edit: *Thank you* everyone who got the point. To everyone else, y'all are... never mind.?

    #16

I grew up in a household where men didn't find things cute. Was very suprised in high school when guy friends would say things were cute and actually mean it not sarcastically. Still think about men finding things cute to this day ?

    #17

That there's a sure fire way of pleasing a man, in every regard. Some sort of formula a woman must follow to be liked by men. It shouldn't be surprising to realize men are individual people, with their own likes and dislikes. Sure some things please more men, and some things bother many, but no 2 men are the same. Shocking!

    #18

I thought women were dramatic. Turns out men are so f*****g dramatic for no reason??

    #19

I've been told men get boners when they run. Since I don't know many men, my only family is my mother and all my friends are female, I fully believed it and never even questioned it. spoke to a guy a few years later and mentioned this, apparently men do not get boners when they run and I got absolutely bullshitted.

    #20

That if a guy was raised by a single mom automatically becomes compassionate and soft hearted person especially towards woman so not true .

    #21

My wife was really blown away when I knew how to cook. Matter of fact I do all our cooking, she never has to do anything other than occasionally air fry some chicken nuggets or a corn dog for our daughter.

I’ve realized as I’ve gotten older, most guys I know don’t cook. Which blows my mind.

    #22

The amount of women I've read on Reddit that believe if a man gets a boner it means he's sexually aroused is astonishing.

    #23

Not me but a coworker of mine was raised to believe that men shouldn’t show emotions. She wouldn’t let her son to cry as a child or teenager and said she basically bullied him into manning up. She moved away from where she grew up and realized how f****d up that was. She said she really regrets treating him like that

    #24

That women can't be platonic friends with men or that men will always develop romantic feelings. most of my friends are men and i've literally never had that issue

That men fundamentally don’t care about romance and only desire sex in their relationships with women. Super cynical, pretty misandrist take but being on social media a decent amount of the day and seeing degrading posts or comments about women from some of the guys on there definitely makes you believe men just hate women.

But no, my boyfriend (recent development) is so f*****g awesome. He’s such a hopeless romantic like me and I am so lucky to have such a lovable idiot in my life ??

Concerning how many of these comments consist of women thinking these absolutely f*****g bonkers things about men, and only turning around because the guy they started dating, turned out to be a regular human

I was always told that to defend myself from a guy to hit his nuts. Hubby informed me (veteran army mp) that while it will hurt a guy, only a percentage will drop. It's just as likely to p**s him off and make him want to attack you worse. There are better places to attack for a smaller person like me.

I grew up believing that men weren’t capable of love. Like I actually thought all men who were in a relationship could not possibly love the person they were with.

I met my husband in high school and he completely changed that belief! He showed so much love for me and was able to express that love in such a wholesome way that truly made me realize that I was so wrong.

That men can voluntarily move their d**k… Watched a guy sitting down flip it up on his stomach from it being in a downward position. May have made him do it a few times lol. Don’t know why I thought a guy couldn’t do that. Guess I thought they always needed a hand or momentum to move it around.

There are sometimes complicated moments in a relationship when things get overwhelming, and we might consider hitting the pause button. For some couples, taking time apart can be beneficial, encouraging them to reflect on their relationship and further develop it.

However, redditor Realistic-Gas7711 wasn’t even aware that he and his fiancée needed a break. To his surprise, she announced it after he dropped her off at the airport, just moments before she left for her 6-week trip to Europe. Confused and hurt, he canceled their wedding and refused to take her back.

Taking some time off from your partner means intentionally creating space for reflection and clarity

Admittedly, taking a break in a relationship is a much bigger deal than taking a coffee break. But what does that actually mean? Does this signal the end of a relationship? Are you free to date other people? Are you now single? Or are you still committed to your significant other?

Technically, taking some time off from your partner means intentionally creating space for reflection and clarity. Relationship therapist Jaime Bronstein told Brides.com that the terms of the agreement vary depending on each person. They are the ones who decide if they will communicate from time to time or cut off all contact during it.

Additionally, both people need to respect each other’s needs and establish acceptable ground rules throughout this time. This includes discussing questions like whether it’s okay to date other people and if it means that you’re single.

Relationship expert Kathryn Ford explains that these ground rules are there to protect the relationship as well as both partners. “It will be important during the break, as during the relationship, to find ways to take care of yourself, while also behaving well toward the other person.” Whatever decision they come to, it’s crucial that both people are on the same page so there aren’t any surprises.

Taking a break doesn’t necessarily mean that the couple has broken up. The former is a temporary pause in a relationship, while the latter tends to be permanent. By spending a short amount of time apart, the goal is to return to the partnership as a stronger pairing. Bronstein shares, “Sometimes, a break can strengthen a couple, and when they come back together, they are more grateful for each other. It can work if both people are willing to make the relationship work.”

Some couples may decide to hit the pause button because of frequent disagreements

There is a multitude of reasons why some partnerships need space. One of them is when a person requires time away to better understand their own needs. There may be times when we want to be more in touch with ourselves. Especially when considering changes in a relationship or even ending it. Having time alone gives you space to gain some perspective and think about what you individually want as well as together as a unit.

Some couples decide to hit the pause button because of frequent disagreements. Perhaps the two of them still care for each other very much, but they can’t reach a resolution. Taking a step back to evaluate the situation with a calmer mind may help to find a better way to approach such problems.

Another reason for taking a break may be due to external causes that require being physically separated, like relocating for work. While the couple might be open to maintaining a long-term relationship, it doesn’t always work, so they may choose to spend some time away. Ford, however, emphasizes, “Discuss this openly and be clear about expectations, especially as regards other romantic/sexual connections.”

All in all, taking a break from a relationship can work. We have to remind ourselves that every individual is different, and for some couples, it may be normal for the relationship to be on and off. And assuming that no serious emotional damage was done, the couple can rest assured that their partnership will resume smoothly—that is if they put in the necessary work while they were apart.
