Simon Willison, le créateur de Datasette et co-créateur de Django, vient de porter un modèle d'inpainting d'image directement dans le navigateur. Sa démo vous permet de choisir une photo, de peindre sur la zone à faire disparaître et ensuite le modèle IA reconstitue ce qu'il manque. Et ce qui est merveilleux avec cette appli c'est que tout tourne sur votre carte graphique en local, comme ça vos données restent chez vous.

Le modèle s'appelle Moebius, dispose de 0,22 milliard de paramètres, et a été développé par une équipe de l'université Huazhong en Chine. À l'origine c'est un modèle PyTorch, que Willison a converti au format ONNX pour le faire tourner via ONNX Runtime Web sur le backend WebGPU, une nouvelle API qui donne aux pages web un accès direct au GPU. Et ce qu'on obtient, c'est un modèle de diffusion qui s'exécute à 100% côté client dans Chrome ou Safari.

Lors de la première utilisation, l'outil télécharge 1,27 Go de poids depuis Hugging Face, ce qui est énorme pour une page web. Mais c'est un one-shot car ensuite, le navigateur range tout ça dans son Cache Storage, et les fois d'après il ne re-télécharge rien.

Je l'ai installé et testé et ça fonctionne vraiment très très bien. J'ai sélectionné quelques tuiles comme un bourrin et ça me les a enlevées très proprement en quelques dizaines de secondes (une fois le modèle initial téléchargé évidemment).

C'est du vrai inpainting génératif en tout cas et pas un truc qui recopie les pixels d'à côté.

Willison raconte dans le README que la conversion PyTorch vers ONNX et l'appli web complète ont été réalisées par Claude Code avec le modèle Claude Opus 4.8, et qu'il n'a "*pas regardé une seule ligne de code *". Il s'est juste contenté de tester dans le navigateur et de signaler ce qui clochait. Hé ouais c'est comme ça maintenant, les temps changent ;)

C'est open source sous licence Apache 2.0, la démo est en ligne, et le code est sur GitHub si vous voulez le lancer chez vous. Testez, et effacez ce gars avec son coup de soleil sur le crâne qui gâche votre plus belle photo de vacances, je ne vous juge pas ^^.

Millions of cats enter shelters in the United States every single year. Sadly, some never make it out alive. According to the ASPCA, around 2.2 million cats were adopted in 2025, 362,000 were returned to their owner or the field, 376,000 were transferred to other organizations, and 277,000 were euthanized.

There are loads of reasons cats end up in shelters across the world. Some are found on the streets as strays. Others are surrendered because their owners can't afford them, are moving, or simply can't 'handle' them. The latter, say experts, is often down to a general lack of animal care education.

According to experts at Cold Nose College, cat behavioral problems, especially inappropriate urination (missing the litter box), are consistently cited as a top reason cats are relinquished. Other behavioral factors include cat-to-cat aggression, biting, and destructive scratching.

"Just like a child, animals do not learn how to be good' all on their own. They need positive guidance and to be taught how to be a well-mannered member of a family," says Cyn Demers from the Saving Grace Humane Society. "If more people had access to training classes or basics on the pet they were getting, it would lead to more cohesive households and less animals being surrendered due to their innate nature as a different species."

Adopting is often also cheaper than buying from a breeder. “Shelter cats are usually treated for parasites, examined by a vet and are very often sterilised and vaccinated before you take them home,” notes Royal Canin's team, adding that most shelters will ask for an affordable financial contribution as an adoption fee.

They suggest asking a lot of questions before deciding on the purr-fect kitty. Find out the cat's age, what its life was like before the shelter. Staff may or may not know the answer but it's worth asking anyway. Also ask if the cat is comfortable being left alone, and whether they have any unusual behavior or if there’s anything you should be aware of.

You might also want to know how the cat reacts to children and/or other animals, and whether they are used to going outside. If you do have other pets at home, you may want to ask the shelter if they can help organize a meet-and-greet.

Experts advise that you spend some time with the cat you intend to adopt, before making a final commitment. "Try to see the cat several times before adopting it and spend some time allowing it to get to know you," explains the Royal Canin site.

When it comes to bringing your newly adopted cat home, there are a few things to keep in mind. Firstly, give him or her space and a place to hide when they feel overwhelmed. The cat might not show you the immediate affection you're craving for and it's best to follow their lead by letting them come to you first. Don't smother them with love and cuddles, as hard as it may be.

"After adoption, your new cat wants a safe place to observe the scene until they’re comfortable enough to explore," reveals the team at Rover. "Make sure these spaces are pet-safe; you don’t want them getting stuck in a wall."

According to Rover's site, a cat will let you know when they're ready for all the love you have to offer. Dilated pupils, flattened ears, and a rapidly twitching tail are signs that the cat is still nervous. But if the cat starts rubbing up against you or puts out a playful paw, it's inviting you into its space.

When they're ready, don't be afraid to play with them. It's great for exercise and even better for bonding.

If you’ve ever asked a pet parent to choose between you and their pet, there’s a good chance you already know how that story ends. For many people, pets aren’t “just animals”—they’re family. They’re loyal companions, emotional support systems, and the ones who stick by us through some of life’s toughest moments. Whether it’s a dog greeting you at the door after a long day or a cat curling up beside you when you need comfort most, those bonds run incredibly deep.

That’s exactly what happened in today’s story. One woman absolutely adored her two pet cats, both of whom had helped her through some of the most difficult periods of her life. So, when she got engaged, she made it clear from the very beginning that her beloved pets would be moving in with them. But not long after the couple started living together, her fiancé gave her a shocking ultimatum: she had just four days to “get rid of” one of her cats. Research suggests that pet ownership can lower stress levels and improve emotional well-being

Whether someone chooses to have a pet or not is a deeply personal decision. Just like any lifestyle choice, pet ownership comes with its own set of responsibilities, challenges, and rewards. There’s the daily feeding, grooming, vet visits, and, yes, the occasional fur-covered couch. But for millions of people around the world, the positives far outweigh the inconveniences. Research has consistently shown that pets can help reduce stress and anxiety, ease feelings of loneliness, provide unconditional love and emotional support, create a calming presence at home, and even give people a greater sense of purpose. After all, there’s something incredibly comforting about knowing that no matter what kind of day you’ve had, someone is always excited to see you walk through the front door.

Pets don’t just benefit our emotional health; they can also encourage healthier lifestyles. One study found that more than 60% of dog owners meet the recommended weekly amount of physical activity. That means they’re getting at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise every week, simply because their furry companion needs regular walks. Many owners even say their dogs motivate them to leave the house on days when they’d rather stay in bed. Those daily walks often turn into opportunities to explore parks, meet neighbors, enjoy fresh air, and build healthier routines. In many ways, dogs become the most persistent (and perhaps the cutest) personal trainers anyone could ask for.

But here’s something even more interesting. Traditionally, pets were often viewed as companions within families that already had children. They were considered an addition to the household rather than a central part of it. Today, however, researchers are noticing a significant shift. As birth rates decline in many countries and family structures continue to change, pets are increasingly taking on much larger roles in people’s lives. It’s becoming more common to hear people refer to themselves as “dog moms” or “cat dads,” and while those labels may sound playful, they reflect a genuine emotional connection. Increasingly, pets aren’t simply living alongside families; they’re becoming an essential part of what family means.

Several broader demographic changes help explain why this is happening. In many developed countries, marriage rates, fertility rates, and even household sizes have declined over the past few decades. At the same time, more people are living alone or spending longer periods of adulthood without partners or children. As a result, pets are often filling roles that might once have been occupied by spouses, siblings, or children. They become trusted companions, sources of emotional comfort, and loyal members of the household. While they certainly don’t replace human relationships entirely, they often help ease feelings of isolation and provide a level of companionship that’s difficult to put into words.

Research supports just how deeply people value these relationships. According to Psychology Today, 77% of dog and cat owners say their pet is a family member “just like anyone else”. Similarly, Pew Research found that nearly all dog owners in the United States consider their canine companions to be important members of the family. In fact, in some countries, dogs now outnumber children. That statistic alone highlights just how dramatically society’s relationship with pets has evolved. For millions of households, caring for a pet isn’t viewed as a hobby or luxury; it’s simply part of everyday family life.

Shifting family dynamics and growing social isolation have strengthened the emotional role pets play in people’s lives

Animal behavior researcher Enikő Kubinyi has spent years studying this growing bond between humans and their pets at ELTE Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. In a paper published in Current Directions in Psychological Science, Kubinyi explores why these relationships have become so meaningful. She argues that the parent-child-like bond many people develop with their dogs is driven by both biology and culture. Humans have evolved with a natural instinct to nurture and care for others. At the same time, modern society has changed dramatically, with smaller families, fewer children, and increasing social isolation. Together, these biological instincts and cultural shifts have helped strengthen the emotional role pets now play in our lives.

Kubinyi explains this idea even further, saying, “Many people now live without close family ties or regular interaction with children. For example, in recent years, nearly 90% of adults in Hungary do not spend any time caring for young children, although our species is biologically adapted to cooperative child-rearing. Yet the psychological need to nurture and connect hasn’t disappeared.” In other words, while society has changed, our emotional wiring hasn’t. People still seek meaningful connections, opportunities to care for someone, and relationships built on trust and affection. For many, pets naturally step into that space, offering companionship without judgment and affection without conditions.

At the end of the day, pets mean different things to different people. For some, they’re loyal companions who brighten everyday life. For others, they’re emotional anchors who helped them survive grief, loneliness, anxiety, or some of life’s darkest moments. That’s why asking someone to give up a beloved pet is rarely as simple as giving away an object. It often feels more like losing a close friend or family member. While every household has to find arrangements that work for everyone, it’s also important to recognize the emotional significance pets hold in so many people’s lives. Understanding that bond is often the first step toward finding compassionate solutions.

Coming back to this particular story, it’s easy to understand why the woman felt so heartbroken. She had made it clear from the very beginning of the relationship that her two cats would always be part of the package, and her fiancé had known about them long before they moved in together. That’s why his sudden ultimatum came as such a shock. Relationships naturally involve compromise, but many people felt this demand crossed a line—especially when it involved a pet that had been part of her life for years. Others also questioned why the issue wasn’t raised more seriously before they became engaged. Pandas, what are your thoughts? 3D printing essentially involves taking a digital file and then using that info to layer various materials like plastics, composites, or bio-materials to create whatever object you want, with whatever properties you want. Size, texture, material, color, rigidity, flexibility, etc—everything is up for grabs.

The 3D printing industry is predicted to be worth a jaw-dropping $84 billion by 2029 as the technology’s capabilities continue to soar. This continued spread of 3D printing tech makes it highly likely that you and I will, eventually, interact with products, homes, buildings, toys, prosthetics, medical models and implants made with this tech.

To say that we’re excited for the future of this tech is underselling things.

One of the coolest things about this tech is that it completely shifts timelines. If you urgently need protective medical gear (like healthcare workers did during the pandemic) or a niche replacement part for an important piece of machinery, you can, effectively, use a 3D printer to get what you need instantly instead of waiting days, weeks, or months.

Meanwhile, companies can use this speed to iterate on prototypes and test out products incredibly quickly.

This is my first original design: a simple, minimalist corner desktop LED lamp. It’s designed to sit neatly in a corner and cast a soft, indirect glow on the wall. The lamp uses a cheap $7 LED strip from Amazon and prints in one piece, sitting at 10inches tall.

This project has been a work in progress for the better part of 9 months, I've been slowly printing each state as I have the time. Finally added Alaska today to complete the map.
Because each one is (on average) less than 10mm thick, this whole project actually didn't use that much filament (my best estimate is 3-4kg).
The scale of Hawaii is a little larger than it should be; the iteration of files I was using had the scaling a little off and I didn't notice until it was finished printing. Haven't decided if it's worth re-printing yet.

Earlier, Bored Panda interviewed Germany-based computer vision engineer Sricharan Chiruvolu. He was kind enough to share his thoughts on 3D printing, including its applications and upsides, with our team.

He emphasized that 3D printing has affected the common consumer goods market, allowing for more personalized, custom-made items, whether you’re talking about phone cases or prosthetics.

“Also, it [3D printing] helps to bring down the production cost for a few products, giving customers more access to distinctive designs,” the expert told us earlier.

One huge upside of this technology is that it cuts the costs of creating prototypes. This way, businesses can quickly and cheaply test new products, parts, and designs.

The bottom of my deodorant broke and there was still like a quarter of it left. So I grabbed my $50 calibers and took some measurements.
Then I fired up my $2000/year CAD program on my $3000 computer and designed a replacement in a few minutes.
I then used the FREE slicer that came with my $1500 3D printer and after 20 minutes, I had a 15 cent replacement.
This saved nearly $2 in deodorant that I would have had to throw away.
All said and done I saved I saved -$6548.15!

#28 3D Printed Hobby Desk Storage Wall

Finally finished printing the last few custom parts for my hobby desk storage walls. The base pieces are the Multiboard project. Really loved the way the paint racks turned out. I think dedicated bottle holder racks that are more popular in style would have been far less versatile. I'm also really happy with the gridfinity shelf that holds my small tools that get used frequently. Much more convenient to pull the small organizer off the wall, into the desk, and use the tools right there. I was worried about the weight of the large bottles of various paint liquids on top of the drawers, but those are very solid. I think the only part I'm not in love with is that I didn't have a vision of the whole thing when I started, so it's printed in a mishmash of various blues instead of a unified color theme... Oh well, maybe v2.0

#30 The Print That Got Me A Job

I went from unemployed graduate to now working at a pretty sweet job!
As we all know job markets are pretty rough around the world especially in the UK for new grads.
So I started off offering 3D printing as a service as well as selling on Etsy to support myself.
I also help out occasionally in my local community and a local property manager needed a statue for the front of his building!
I took a 3d scan of an existing statue with my iPhone then re modelled it with nomad and fusion.
I did basic FEA of the cut blocks at the base and adjusted the infill to be a bit stronger towards the base as the total weight sits around 30-40kg of PETG (I cannot remember the exact weight now as this was 3 months ago)
Total print time was a bit over 1200 hours and took over 15 days of straight printing (very little failures or re-prints needed). The entire print was joined together with a mix of industrial glue (I think the name was CT something) plastic welder, filler, 3D pen and of course the mighty solder to help clean up some rough edges. The base half of the statue is screwed to the building as I just used Bambu slicer to add holes in all the blocks.
My total spend on material was £230ish and I was paid £1000. (Yeah I was definitely underpaid but this was my first and maybe my last time doing something this big!)
Safe to say the guy was super impressed and asked if I needed a job as to put it in his words: if you can design and print a statue, you can handle spreadsheets and talking to people.
For anyone concerned about weather or longevity. It’s covered in thick coats of paint and clear coats to finish it off.
To note: the manager did say he was quoted 3 months and £2.5k for plaster which is why he wanted a faster solution and turned to 3d printing.
To anyone really concerned about longevity, property folk don’t really care and just want the job done quick and dirty as it’s not really their concern in 10-20 years time. Hence why I was lowballed at £1k🤣

#34 My Brother And I Designed Our Own 3D-Printed Metal Watch

A few years ago, u/raceking37 and I decided to create our own digital watch. The project was inspired by a few vintage HDSP-2000 LED matrix displays that we had acquired. These displays were first introduced in the 1970s and have a really unique look, especially under a microscope (as shown in the last image). They're quite difficult to photograph with my phone, though, so they look much nicer in person than they do in these photos. The watch uses an ATTINY1616 microcontroller. The metal case of the watch is SLM 3D-printed in stainless steel.

After months of work, I'm delighted to be able to present the Mk01: a 3D-printed mid-tower PC case !
A PC case for mini ITX and micro ATX motherboards, customizable, upgradeable, with a retro futuristic, minimalist and playful design!
For ventilation and airflow, it can accommodate two 120mm fans on the front. The top and bottom are perforated for improved cooling. At the rear, you can add an 80 mm fan for extraction.
All the pc parts fit together like a jigsaw puzzle and are screwed together. The outer parts of the pc are magnetized. You can open the pc at any time, without unscrewing, change the pc’s style without reprinting the complete case, print custom parts

#39 This Is Exactly Why I Bought A Printer Two Months Ago

Finished printing a heavily modified PC case I’ve been working on and wanted to share the result here since the whole thing was printed on my Bambu P1S.

The design started from an FF04-style case, but I ended up modifying it quite a bit to fit modern hardware and my own layout ideas. It’s now housing my main gaming SFF PC, so this thing is fully functional and not just a display print. So many iterations of parts as well in the last photo lol.

Printed in Polymaker HT PLA GF, and overall I’m really happy with how clean the panels and structural parts came out. The P1S handled the job surprisingly well considering the number of large parts involved.

Honestly though, printing something this size really made me want a larger-format printer someday, especially something like a Prusa CORE One XL with the toolchanger/index system, just to avoid splitting parts so much and to experiment more with multi-material setups.

Still dialing in some finishing touches, but the case is basically done now and running daily.

#40 Fully 3D Printed Life Size Horus

5 months and 1752 individual 3d printed pieces later, I have a Horus Lupercal.
Quick stats:
Total tip top height: 14’ 5” | 4.4m
Top of Horus’s head: 11’ 9” | 3.6m
Human: 5’ 5” | 165cm
Why not paint him before assembling? This isn’t a mini 😁. A practical was the only way to see what issues will pop up, if it can even support itself, if something will break or if I need to reinforce something. Better for something to happen now, than to waste weeks painting only to find out it all falls apart.
He is missing his talon, but a combination of me not thinking through access and not enough floor height, I could not add it yet. Even the Worldbreaker is at a slightly higher level due to the pallets. It’s not flush in the arm. So I had to use cords to hold it for now.
I did have to saw a portion of his leg armor off as it was interfering with his forearm. These things I couldn’t account for in theory.
His arms and pauldrons are held in place with rods, hooks and a massive heavy duty turnbuckle. Basically the same exact set up in my space marine, but beefier.
There is no additional support in his legs. Just straight up hollow plastic.
I will have a more detailed post in the future regarding cost, filament, weight, waste and other technical details for this project.

I needed something to hang my dish cloths on, so they could dry out. At first, I thought about using tape, but then I realized that I could probably attach them with suction cups so I could easily remove them when I’m cleaning… and it worked perfectly!

It's so easy and quick to charge, but I thought it could use a bit of extra flair. So I designed a watch stand that doubles as a charger. The cable hides inside the charger through a cavity in the hollow stand. I had some 95A TPU that closely matched the blue silicone band, so decided to use that to make a non-slip foot!

A 2023 study published in Nature Medicine backs this up. The researchers looked at data pulled from five large studies, covering over 93,000 people spread across 16 countries, from the U.S. and Japan to China and much of Europe.

Every participant was at least 65 years old, and more than 6 in 10 were dealing with ongoing mental or physical health conditions.

What they found was pretty telling. Folks who spent time on hobbies said they felt healthier, happier, and more satisfied with life overall, and they had fewer signs of depression than those who didn’t. The pattern showed up in every country involved. 

The study can’t prove that hobbies directly caused those outcomes, but the researchers noted that they involve creativity, self-expression, and mental engagement, all of which tend to go hand in hand with feeling good.

“One thing that separates a hobby from other kinds of leisure is that it involves the acquisition of skills, or learning,” she said. “Hobbies provide a sense of accumulation and growth—of stretching ourselves to improve or to meet new goals—and that can help us fulfill our needs for meaning and purpose.”

Yazdan Mansourian, a senior lecturer and leisure researcher at Charles Sturt University in Australia, told Time that hobbies “support the more authentic dimensions of life and create conditions for self-actualization.”

#76 Pleased With How This One Came Out

My process is simple, using tape to set up each "line" and a palette knife to push the paint around within the set up area, then peel the tape. It's the endless repetition that is awfully long process that makes me question my own existence and everything else lol. Still, after about 2 to 4 months, I'm just in awe and glad to see these paintings before my eyes.

Vous voyez le principe du wallet crypto au format carte bancaire ?

Ça se compose d'une puce, d'un code, et de vos précieuses clés privées cryptos planquées dedans. Et bah figurez-vous que Baptistin Boilot, un chercheur de chez Ledger Donjon, vient de montrer qu'avec un laser, un scalpel et une sacrée dose de patience, on peut imposer un nouveau code à une carte Tangem sans jamais connaître l'ancien. C'est en tout cas la démonstration que vient de publier son labo, et le plus dingue, c'est que ça se joue sur un secure element Samsung certifié EAL6+, autrement dit le très haut du panier en matière de puces sécurisées.

Un petit pulse laser d'une nanoseconde envoyé pile au bon endroit, et le taux de réussite pour remettre à zéro le code secret de la carte monte à 100 % !!

Alors oui, Ledger Donjon c'est le laboratoire de sécurité de Ledger, concurrent frontal de Tangem, et Tangem n'a évidemment pas manqué de le rappeler. Sauf que la faille a été divulguée à la marque en février 2026, bien avant publication, donc tout a été fait dans les règles de l'art. Et puis Ledger n'a pas vraiment de leçons à donner niveau boulettes (rappelez-vous la fuite de sa base client ), donc on va juger le boulot technique plutôt que la rivalité commerciale.

Leur cible, c'est l'instruction SetPin, celle qui gère le code protégeant vos fonds. Quelque part là-dedans, la puce se pose une question toute bête, du genre "cette carte est-elle en mode récupération ?". Et le tir laser vient fausser ce test à l'instant exact où il s'exécute. Il ne grille rien du tout hein, il fausse juste le résultat une fraction de seconde, ce qui permet à la puce d'accepter un nouveau code sans jamais vérifier le vôtre.

Après, y'a quand même un sacré ticket d'entrée car pour en arriver là, les chercheurs ont ouvert la carte au scalpel, retiré le blindage métallique, dessoudé la puce, recâblé le tout sur une carte maison, et remplacé l'antenne NFC par une alimentation filaire pour piloter chaque signal. Un vrai travail d'orfèvre ! Ajoutez environ 250 000 dollars de matériel entre le laser, l'oscilloscope et la sonde électromagnétique et puis beaucoup de temps : 1 heure de balayage laser pour la première réussite, puis 2 heures par carte ensuite, sans parler de toute la R&D en amont.

La puce se défend, en plus. Elle tient un compteur de fautes en mémoire flash et se verrouille pour de bon au bout de quelques centaines de ratés. Sauf que les chercheurs ont trouvé la parade qui est de couper l'alimentation au moment précis où la puce s'apprête à noter l'incident. Du coup le compteur ne grimpe quasiment plus, et une carte qui aurait dû se bloquer très vite a encaissé plus d'une journée de tirs laser !

Alors, la question que vous vous posez forcément c'est : est-ce que votre Tangem est toujours fiable ? Pour vous, au quotidien, oui car il faut un accès physique à la carte. Puis l'opération laisse des dégâts parfaitement visibles (une carte charcutée au scalpel, ça se remarque), et je pense que personne ne va monter un labo à un quart de million pour siphonner votre wallet.

Maintenant, c'est vrai que cette faille ne sera jamais corrigée, car les cartes Tangem n'embarquent aucun mécanisme de mise à jour du firmware. Ça peut vous sembler absurde, mais en fait c'est pas si con que ça parce que qui dit pas de mise à jour dit pas de mise à jour vérolée. Hé hé.

Mais maintenant que le trou existe, et qu'aucun patch n'est possible, cela veut dire que toutes les cartes en circulation, dont la vôtre peut-être, restent vulnérables à vie. Et celle que vous achèteriez aujourd'hui ? Bah vulnérable tout pareil, tant que Tangem ne revoit pas son design.

Alors oui, l'attaquant ne lit pas vos secrets, il prend juste le contrôle du wallet en lui imposant son propre code, un peu comme une carte à puce sécurisée qu'on déverrouillerait de force sans en lire le contenu. C'est pourquoi Tangem estime que le risque est quasi inexistant, en rappelant au passage que n'importe quel secure element finira au bout d'un moment par céder si on y consacre assez de temps et d'argent.

Bref, si vous avez une Tangem au fond d'un tiroir, pas de panique, gardez-la juste bien à vous, parce que côté correctif, vous pourrez attendre longtemps, il n'y en aura jamais.

Vous le savez, j'adore mon Kindle ! Je manque effectivement de temps pour lire tout ce que je voudrais mais bon, on verra ça quand la retraite sera là ^^.

En attendant, ce que j'ignorais, c'est que sur les Kindle récents, il y a encore un petit navigateur web, plus exactement un vieux Chrome de 2019 bien planqué dans des menus qu'on n'ouvre jamais. Et c'est à ce module précisément que Tanguy Dubroca de Synacktiv s'est intéressé. Et en creusant, il a découvert qu'une faille s'y cachait et permettait de prendre le contrôle total de la liseuse avec votre compte Amazon en supplément salade tomate oignon.

Son objectif premier c'était de comprendre comment prendre la main sur un Kindle verrouillé sans le jailbreaker. Alors il a fouillé dans le firmware de son Paperwhite 5 et y a découvert ce vieux Chrome et son moteur Webkit qu'une quinzaine d'années, prêt à céder à toutes ses demandes... niark niark.

Il n'a eu plus qu'à piocher dans les vieilles failles déjà bien connues de Chrome et en a choisi une présentée dans le moteur Javascript V8 patchée par Google en 2022. Sauf que normalement, elle ne devait pas marcher sur un Kindle, parce qu'Amazon avait désactivé le composant vulnérable.

Enfin, avait essayé...

Parce que dans la commande censée le désactiver, il manquait deux petits tirets. Une faute de frappe qui faisait que l'option était ignorée en silence, et donc que le moteur JS d'époque restait allumé avec cette porte grande ouverte...

L'attaque n'a ensuite besoin que d'une seule chose qui est que vous ouvriez un site web piégé dans le navigateur de la liseuse. Pas de panique donc, car ça ne se déclenche pas tout seul quand vous recevez un livre, mais une fois la page web ouverte, elle peut trafiquer la mémoire de l'appareil, ce qui permet au chercheur de prendre la main sur le navigateur pour ensuite, via une seconde vulnérabilité dans le composant qui lance les applis, obtenir des droits administrateur et donc l'accès complet.

Une fois avec ça, il peut tout faire comme exécuter n'importe quel programme, vous espionner, détourner votre compte Amazon, et même rebondir vers les autres appareils présents sur votre réseau Wi-Fi. La totale !!

Dubroca a prévenu Amazon en décembre 2025, qui a classé le truc en critique, lâché 20 000 $ de prime, et poussé un correctif dans le firmware 5.19.2 en janvier. La mise à jour se fait toute seule une fois le Kindle branché et connecté au Wi-Fi alors si votre liseuse dort dans un tiroir depuis des mois, un petit coup de Wi-Fi et elle se mettra à jour, hop. D'ailleurs c'est la deuxième faille Kindle en 7 mois , après celle du livre audio piégé. Deux équipes françaises, deux fois le même appareil, ça commence à faire beaucoup pour de vieilles liseuses qu'Amazon laisse doucement vieillir .

Bref, une liseuse c'est comme un ordinateur, ça se pirate mais ça peut se mettre à jour ^^. Ouf !
